Our construction division has developed a strong reputation over the past two decades, resulting in operations across a broad range of sectors including commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, housing (private and social), heritage, leisure and civil engineering.
We work throughout central Wales, Shropshire, and the West Midlands supported by our specialist and trusted subcontractor network.
Our new-build construction expertise includes timber frame, traditional build, structural insulated panels (SIPs) and steel frame construction solutions under traditional or design and build contracts.
Our teams are highly experienced in delivering and managing multi-phased and complex refurbishment and renovation projects, often conducted in occupied premises or live environments.
We are proud of our long-standing client relationships, built on the solid foundations of successful high-quality, cost-effective builds, with attentive two-way communication throughout every project.
COMMERCIAL
Refurbishments, new-builds, extensions, renovation works… our team is highly experienced in a wide range of projects for commercial clients.
Commercial projects are often undertaken within occupied premises, retail or business parks, and we understand the importance of close collaboration with neighbouring business owners and tenants.
Business continuity is of paramount importance for all commercial clients, which is why we always undertake precise project planning and management together with tight financial control.
INDUSTRIAL
In the industrial sector, our experience ranges from extensions and refurbishment of existing industrial premises, to complete new-build industrial unit developments, including warehouses and factories.
We are specialists at operating in active and busy environments without disrupting tenants or business operations, delivering on time and to budget thanks to meticulous project planning.
RESIDENTIAL
Creating or improving people’s homes is a real passion for us at SWG.
We develop high-quality houses and apartments, from affordable housing to bespoke, prestige homes. We believe every home should be special, so we work hard to ensure each home and community we help to create has a touch of imagination and ingenuity.
We work with numerous clients across the private and public housing sector on refurbishment, new-build and planned maintenance projects. Our teams have the experience and skills to develop traditional-build, timber-framed, modular and passivhaus homes.
Clients include local authorities, housing associations and, through our own SWG Homes division, private developers and individuals.
We always go the extra mile, working closely with every stakeholder including landowners, local authorities and communities to ensure the best possible results.
CIVIL ENGINEERING
We provide civil engineering expertise to local authorities, and have worked on numerous infrastructure projects across Mid Wales and the Midlands.
Recent examples include the creation of a new transport interchange, involving the resurfacing of car parks, bus station and associated drainage works, along with carriageway and footpath widening works.
EDUCATION
From rural primary and secondary schools to urban colleges and agricultural universities… our experience of the education sector is wide and varied.
Working with providers of education in both the private and public sectors, we have delivered contracts of various types, sizes, and complexity – including refurbishments, renovations, adaptations, and new-builds.
As a result, we have a deep understanding of construction projects in the primary, secondary and further education sectors. We appreciate the sensitivities of working within a ‘live’ education environment.
We regularly work in schools and universities during term time where we have implemented effective measures to ensure minimal disruption to staff, students, and visitors – even involving pupils so they understand the project and how it will benefit them and their school.
All relevant staff engaged on such projects are trained in safeguarding and are enhanced DBS checked.
HERITAGE
Delivering a successful heritage project not only requires a highly-specialised set of skills, but also a detailed understanding of the sector and commitment to ongoing collaboration with designers and planning authorities.
We have particular expertise in dealing with Listed buildings and, alongside our specialist supply chain, have restored numerous historic buildings to their former glory.
Our extensive portfolio includes schools, museums, town halls and places of cultural interest.
PLANNED MAINTENANCE
We are proud to have established a number of long-standing framework placements for the maintenance of housing association and local authority properties.
Put simply, we care about our clients and work closely to ensure best value for them and continuous improvement for the contract. This approach has seen SWG successfully renew tenders for ongoing maintenance programmes, some spanning many years.
Healthcare
Whether working within a hospital setting or a service user’s own home, we understand that every healthcare project is unique.
We are experienced in working on health and social care projects in both the public and private sectors, and our highly-trained staff appreciate the challenges of working within a live environment.
Our delivery of successful healthcare projects starts with early communication with the client, with patient care at the top of our agenda.
All relevant staff engaged on healthcare projects are trained in safeguarding and are enhanced DBS checked. SWG is committed to ensuring that people are treated with dignity and respect, and team members are ‘Dementia Awareness’ trained.
LEISURE
We have experience in delivering a varied and exciting range of projects in the leisure sector, ranging from sports facilities to food outlets.
We work closely with leisure providers of all sizes to deliver high-quality refurbishment projects safely and often within live environments. Our teams understand the need for careful planning and regular communication to ensure any disruption for staff or visitors is minimised.
