You may remember that SWG Group pledged to raise money for a range of charities this year as we celebrate our 20th anniversary in business.
And we’re doing just that!
We gave an update to our progress in May and while we’ve been keeping you up to date on our social media channels, we thought it was about time we created a helpful round up of what our staff have been up to.
Completed challenges
Back in June a team took on the Macmillan Cancer Support longest day golf challenge. Two teams of four players started playing at 4am and did us proud with their efforts! They’ve raised almost £1,000 for Macmillan, which is incredible. You can still donate here.
In August, a team took on the Welsh Three Peaks challenge, aiming to climb and descend Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan in just 24 hours.
They didn’t do that - they smashed it in just 16 hours instead!
And they raised over £600 for mental health charity Ponthafren in the process. You can still donate here.
SWG’s marketing executive and liaison officer Natalia Lewiecka took to the streets of Newcastle to complete the Great North Run half marathon in September, in aid of Shine - a charity which provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. She’s raised over £700.
What else?
We also donated six tickets for Circus Starr to people in the community - because every child deserves a little magic!
We love to help others doing their own projects nearby so we also donated to Friends of Abermule and Abermule Community Council, which you can read more about here.
We have also supported local people and sporting events such as SWG site manager Stuart Anderson’s championship clay shooting, Mariusz Pilinski at the Irish Pro Invitational Powerlifting competition in Ireland, horse racing at Cilmery Farm, Builth Wells, match sponsorship for Welshpool Cricket Club and home and away kit sponsorship for Welshpool Football Club.
Play your part
We are incredibly proud of the difference SWG Group has made throughout 2022 so far - we feel we are achieving exactly what we set out to do as we celebrate our anniversary.
With over 50 staff and many contractors across Powys and Shropshire, everyone is on board and taking part - they should all be very proud of their achievements, both in raising money for charity and reaching personal goals.
But it’s only September, there’s still time to make a difference and there’s more challenges coming!
We’ve given you 20 years and we’d love for you to help us give a little something back as we celebrate.
Please donate whenever you can and support those in need throughout our special anniversary year!
