We are pleased to say SWG Group has completed yet another contract on time and on budget.
We’ve renovated the external and communal areas of four three-storey blocks of flats in Newtown on behalf of Powys County Council.
What it was like
The blocks were originally constructed in 1974, and were well overdue some repairs and maintenance. With the works ensuring that the buildings were brought in line with the current regulations.
But beyond meeting regulations and giving it a new lease of life, we were required to improve security and make them a safer place to live.
Safety was key, in fact, as the flats remained occupied during our time on site, meaning close liaison was essential for the people living there throughout the project.
What we did
Externally, SWG carried out improvement works, which comprised of opening up the ground floor, resurfacing of the estate pathways, external resin paving, landscaping of grounds, and bin store and cycle store installation.
We improved the stairwells and communal areas by installing fire alarm systems, and mesh edge protection to handrails. The multiple stairwells and landings benefitted from new windows, resin floor, rendering, new ceilings and decoration throughout. We also carried out estate repairs and infilled existing garage doorways.
Important improvements
And to improve security? We installed modern CCTV systems and new access doors with intercom links to the flats.
All in all, this job has hopefully improved the lives of those living there and we are delighted to have been a part of it!
