Welshpool Town and SWG Group - a winning team and a combination we are proud of
20 Aug 2024

We are always on the ball at SWG, just ask our many valued clients! And we admire others with the same mindset - which is why we value our ongoing partnership with Welshpool Town Football Club.

Yes, another football season is with us . . . doesn’t it seem like a year-round thing these days? But we don’t mind that and our team of football fans at SWG Group are preparing for the season ahead by digging out their Welshpool colours and gargling regularly to ensure they are in good voice for the upcoming campaign.

Getting involved

We started sponsoring Welshpool Town when we signed on as kit sponsor in 2019 and have enjoyed an excellent working partnership with the club ever since. The club continues to make great strides on and off the pitch, always trying to attract new fans and corporate support in its effort to grow and bring even more success to the town.

The club was founded in 1878 and has won multiple trophies during that time. On Wednesday 14th of August 2024, the first team played in the MMP Central Wales League while the women’s side takes part in the North-East Women’s Football League.

There is a strong commitment to develop young talent as well and the club boasts a strong junior section which includes 10 age group teams and one girls’ side. But just as important is Welshpool Town’s goal to support the local community - a desire we share at SWG Group.

Julian Kirkham, one of our SWG Group directors, said:

“We are proud to continue our relationship with Welshpool Town and are looking forward to the new season very much. This is always an exciting time of year with expectations high. There are sure to be ups and downs along the way but that is the nature of football and is why so many of us love the game.

“SWG is a staunch supporter of the club and admires its involvement in the local community which is committed to getting more people and businesses onside while also playing an important role in other ways locally whenever it can.

“It is a philosophy that we share wholeheartedly as SWG continues to enjoy supporting the area we serve whenever possible - whether that be by way of sponsorship, donations, working to raise funds for good causes or taking pride in developing young talent looking to build a career with us.

“We have long-standing ties with Welshpool Town and have sponsored home and away kits over recent years. It is a partnership we are keen to maintain and look forward to cheering all the club’s teams on over the course of the season.

“If you are a local business wanting to get involved in sponsorship at some level at the football club, or if you are a new or maybe a past supporter who hasn’t turned out to follow the team’s fortunes for a while, why not join us on match days to give them all the backing we can?”

Gary Jones, Welshpool Town FC men’s first team manager, added:

‘' Welshpool Town Football Club are committed to working with local businesses this season, the long term with relationship with SWG Group is one we are proud of.

''As a club we are proud to offer a pathway on and off the pitch for the local people to be apart of the club. We thank the SWG Group for their commitment and hard work over the years’’
