Here at SWG Group we are delighted that work has started on a long awaited project in Powys.
Our workmen have moved on site to begin creating a state-of-the-art 3G pitch with shared access for members of the public using Llanidloes Sports Centre and students at Llanidloes High School.
The pitch, which is being built on land between the two buildings, will be suitable for football, hockey and a number of other outdoor sports.
It was a great moment when the spade first went in for groundwork as this has been a project which both parties - and Powys County Council - have been planning and hoping to happen for a long time.
This is a project that will greatly benefit both the students, Freedom Leisure and the wider public too.
It has been so sought after because the outdated pitch is no longer fit for purpose as the surface is degraded and affecting usage.
Work by SWG Group will include removing the current pitch surfaces and installing a modern and effective sustainable drainage system, followed by installation of a state-of-the art multi use artificial pitch surface.
We will then install rebound fencing to protect the pitch and build storage for equipment. Floodlighting will then be installed to allow the area to be utilised during the evenings and winter months.
Jacqui Gough, a director here at SWG Group, commented: “We have successfully planned a shared access point with all parties involved and Powys County Council has been pivotal in helping to plan and proceed with this work effectively and safely.
“Our staff have been eager to get on site and begin as we can see the vast improvements it will make to the people in the area, helping them to stay active in an outdoor setting post COVID-19.”
The project is expected to be completed in the summer and we will be sure to bring you an update then.
