We are approaching the completion of a project to breathe new life to a former community club in south Shropshire which has lain empty for more than a year.
The Church Stretton and District Club closed in 2018 and has remained empty until the renovation project started in September.
SWG’s team of specialists have been converting the building into offices for a local company, which will help rejuvenate that part of Church Stretton.
The project has involved a full refurbishment of the building, which had fallen into a poor state after the club closed.
The club is a well-known building in Church Stretton and has been used as a community base for decades. Now it is being put to use by a local business which will bring further employment opportunities for people in the area.

BREATHING LIFE INTO AN UNUSED BUILDING
WHAT DID WE DO?
The project required a full renovation of the existing building, along with the installation of new mechanical and electrical elements, such as air handling units, pumps, fans and chilled water cooling.
Other works include roof lights, removing and reinstalling the roof and steel supports, plastering, decorating, external works, and flooring.
GOING THE EXTRA MILE
The building is in a busy residential area and the project has needed a great deal of careful planning due to very little storage space and a small working area. We stayed in close contact with residents, as well as the police and fire service – who both have premises nearby – to ensure that any disturbance was kept to a minimum.
