SWG Construction refurbishing Dudley Council House

We are delighted to be leading on the refurbishment of Dudley’s historic council offices, which will bring major improvements for both staff and visitors. The work will see the majority of the first floor of Dudley Council House remodelled, providing a much brighter and more flexible working space.

As always, when we work on live environments, a lot of effort is being made to minimise disruption with work taking place whilst the offices remain open.

The council house was built sometime in the early to mid 1900s and is a landmark building in Dudley. It’s Grade II-listed, so our specialist team is ensuring all work adheres to the necessary standards.

There’s plenty going on since phase one started in January 2023, including:

  –   Stripping the roof and applying new slate

  • – Removing stud walls to form new working spaces

   – A complete overhaul of the electrical systems

   –  Installing a new kitchen in the staff rooms

  • – Replacing the toilets

    – Redecoration throughout

Phase one is now complete, and phase two works commenced in May 2023, involving further renovation of first-floor offices, including electrical, heating, decoration, flooring, and new suspended ceilings.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: The Council House is a spectacular building that forms a key part of the borough’s democratic history. This work will help to preserve key historical features while making the building more energy efficient and practical for a modern workforce. It’s an exciting project and the offices will certainly be much more welcoming with modern, high-quality fixtures and fittings for the benefit of everyone working at or visiting the council house.
