SWG Group raise the roof by completing two projects for council tenants
27 Apr 2021

The construction team at SWG Group have really raised the roof - they have not only completed the re-roofing of over 500 homes, flat roofs and shed roofs in the last four years, they have also refitted 647 kitchens too.

The mammoth task has seen us complete a contract with Powys County Council to help bring their housing up to Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

Preventative measures

We have been on the site of houses, bungalows and blocks of flats to take preventative measures to ensure all the roofs are up to scratch and ensure all kitchens are in full working order with up to date facilities.

All kitchens have benefitted from new electrics, plumbing, flooring, improved functionality, modern new kitchen units and work tops and received full decoration to finish the room off.

And for the roofing, SWG Group has invested in staff training to learn different types of roofing and new techniques that will improve the standard of work and longevity of the roofs we fit.

Recently we invested in setting up a temporary training area in one of our warehouses to train five members of staff to become an approved fitter for Sika Roofing.

It means that SWG Group now has eight staff trained in Sika Roofing, which is used where appropriate in the social housing, education, health care, local authority and commercial contracts we complete across Shropshire and Mid Wales.

On time and on budget

These projects for Powys Council Council’s tenants have been completed on time and on budget - a huge feat in the face of both coronavirus lockdowns and the inclement Welsh weather which often affects working outdoors!

Our teams have been able to adapt to Covid-19 restrictions and work within new regulations to complete the job. Both the roofing and kitchen projects have now been extended for 12 months and we look forward to working with the Council to continue to ensure their properties meet the needs of Powys residents.

In the past SWG Group has also worked with Powys County Council to refit bathrooms too.
