SWG Group celebrates International Women’s Day 2024

The construction industry may not always be an obvious career choice for women - but things are changing. International Women’s Day seems like a good time to highlight the amazing women we have working here at SWG Group, and records show that more women are working in construction than ever before. According to the Office for National Statistics, 15.8% of the construction workforce in the UK was female last year - compared to 12.6% before the pandemic.

We are proud of our record of recruiting women, and in particular we are working hard through the SWG Academy to show girls in schools that the construction industry can be a rewarding career.

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is to ‘Inspire Inclusion’. As the campaign says:

“This year’s campaign theme underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality. It calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected.”

That is certainly the case here at SWG Group, and we are delighted to see the industry as a whole moving in the right direction with a growing number of women seeing construction as a viable career.

So here’s an International Women’s Day shout-out to SWG Group’s Director Jacqui Gough, Finance Director Sophie Shorey, Accounts Assistants Angela Jones and Chloe Evans, Bid Executive Debbie Garbett, Bid Coordinator Lisa Wright, Estimating & Business Development Assistant Kathryn Gray and Marketing Manager Natalia Lewiecka.

Let’s keep inspiring inclusion here at SWG Group and across the construction industry!
